ProMatcher's Rochester figures put a driveway and sidewalk visit at about $40.50 on average ($36 to $45), and YourGreenPal lists $40 to $60 for a typical Rochester driveway. HomeGuide's Rochester page puts a full season at $200 to $600, and one Rochester snow company publishes seasonal single-driveway plowing starting at $875 without sidewalks. Your real price depends on the size of the area, how often it snows and whether salting is included. A local crew quotes it for free.
Sometimes, but you are still responsible. The city runs supplemental sidewalk plowing when 4 inches or more of new snow falls, and it says property owners and ground-floor occupants remain responsible for their sidewalks.
Where alternate-side parking is posted, the city's winter rules set the even side and the odd side by day of the week, switching at 7 p.m. Check the posted signs and the city's winter parking page. During a Snow Emergency, parking is banned on Snow Emergency Routes, and in a Parking Emergency it is banned on the residential streets the city announces.
Yes. From November 1 to April 15, Irondequoit bans parking on town roads and the grass right-of-way from midnight to 9 a.m. That means every car needs a spot in the driveway, so a clean driveway and apron matter all winter.
Within 12 hours after the snow ends. If it stopped after 6 p.m., the Town of Gates gives you until 9 p.m. the next day. The rule covers the owner, agent or occupant.
The National Weather Service says lake-effect bands can drop 2 to 3 inches of snow an hour or more, with heavy snow in one spot and sun a mile or two away. A contract with per-storm or seasonal call-outs gets you cleared during a band, not when the crew gets around to it.
Rochester averages 102.0 inches of snow a season (NOAA), so roof snow and ice dams are a real winter job. Heavy snow at the roof edge can melt and refreeze into ice dams. HomeGuide's national averages put roof raking at $200 to $500 a visit and ice dam removal at $200 to $2,400. Use a roof rake from the ground, and hire a pro for anything that needs a ladder.
A seasonal contract locks in your spot on the route and a set price for the winter. Pay-per-visit means you pay only when it snows. The Rochester airport averages about 29.2 days a year with an inch or more (NOAA 1991–2020 normals), which is a lot of visits at $40 to $60 each. If you can't wait for a callback after a lake-effect burst, a seasonal spot is usually the safer bet.
Before the first snow. The National Weather Service in Buffalo puts Rochester's average first measurable snow on November 8 and the first inch on November 20, so October is the time to get on a route.
Rochester gets plenty of melting and refreezing. Our count of NOAA daily records finds about 64 days each November-to-March season where the temperature crosses freezing, and our count of airport weather reports finds about 3.8 freezing-rain days a winter. Keep ice melt and a traction plan on hand, not just a shovel.
Yes. Requests from this site go to a local snow and landscape contractor that quotes townhome and condo associations, apartment complexes, plazas, office parks and campuses. Commercial and HOA work is priced per site after a walk-through. As an estimate, ProMatcher's Rochester figures put commercial lot plowing at $150 to $225 an hour.
It is usually priced per application or built into a seasonal contract, and every site is different. Ask whether the quote uses rock salt, a treated blend or a pet-safe product, and how often walks are re-treated after a refreeze.
Many do. Industry group SIMA reports that more than half of snow and ice businesses are also lawn and landscape providers. The Census Bureau counted 471 landscaping businesses in the Rochester metro in 2023, so the same crew that plows in January may mow, clean up and plant the rest of the year.

The City of Rochester's sidewalk plowing is supplemental and starts at 4 inches of new snow. The city says property owners and ground-floor occupants remain responsible.
Lake-effect bands are narrow. The National Weather Service says one spot can get heavy snow while it's sunny a mile or two away.
Not everywhere. Irondequoit bans parking on town roads and the grass right-of-way from midnight to 9 a.m., November 1 to April 15, and the City of Rochester runs alternate-side parking and Snow Emergency Route bans.
Heavy snow at the roof edge can melt and refreeze into ice dams that push water under shingles. A roof rake used from the ground keeps the edge clear. Hire a pro for anything that needs a ladder.

Tell us what needs clearing, your ZIP code and anything that helps: driveway length, sidewalks, steps, a parking lot, an HOA drive or a business entrance. Your request goes to a local snow and ice crew serving Rochester, Greece, Irondequoit and Brighton, and they contact you directly with questions and a price.
No cost and no obligation to ask. Seasonal contracts fill up before the first snow, so fall is the best time to ask.
Before you sign, ask for proof of insurance, what snow depth triggers a visit, whether sidewalks and salting are included, and how storm-day calls are billed.
